a. Website Use (PIPEDA)

Messages sent through the website contact form are not encrypted and should not include personal health information (PHI) or sensitive details.

b. Therapy Services (PHIPA)

As part of providing professional therapy, we may collect:

  • Health information relevant to treatment (mental health history, presenting concerns, treatment plans, progress notes).

  • Billing information (insurance details, payment records).

We do not knowingly collect information from individuals under 18 years of age.

  • Process payments and facilitate direct billing (via Owl Practice and TELUS eClaims).

  • Maintain accurate clinical records as required by law.

  • Meet professional and regulatory obligations as a health information custodian under PHIPA.

4. Disclosure of Information

We will not disclose your information to third parties except as required or permitted by law, including:

  • With your consent (e.g., sharing with another healthcare provider).

  • For billing purposes, through Owl Practice or TELUS eClaims.

  • If required by law, court order, or in cases of imminent risk of harm to yourself or others.

  • To comply with professional obligations, such as mandatory reporting of child abuse or neglect.

We do not sell, trade, or rent your information.

5. Safeguards and Security

We take reasonable steps to protect information against loss, theft, unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, or destruction. Safeguards include:

  • Secure digital storage through Owl Practice, which is PHIPA-compliant.

  • Password-protected accounts and encrypted communication systems.

  • Restricted access to client records.

  • Secure payment methods (Owl Practice, TELUS eClaims, and e-transfer).

6. Data Retention

In compliance with PHIPA, client health records are retained for at least 10 years from the date of the last interaction, or for 10 years after the client turns 18, whichever is later. Records are securely destroyed after this period.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Our Site links to third-party services such as Owl Practice. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or security of third-party websites or platforms. Please review their policies directly.

8. Not for Emergencies

Our website and email are not monitored for emergencies. If you are in crisis or at risk of harm:

  • Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.

  • In Canada, you may also contact Talk Suicide Canada at 1-833-456-4566.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access and request a copy of your PHI.
